How many streams/listeners/etc. can I fit on a given server using Centova Cast?

Question:

How many streams/listeners/etc. can I fit on a given server using Centova Cast?

Answer:

Centova Cast is a control panel system, and it does not do any streaming itself. The actual streaming is done by the streaming server software you choose to use with Centova Cast -- either SHOUTcast or IceCast.

Neither SHOUTcast nor IceCast publish metrics for estimating capacity. However, practical observation indicates that they do not use much CPU time or memory; the vast majority of streaming server owners run out of bandwidth before they run out of other system resources.

If you are hosting your clients' stream sources (aka an "AutoDJ"), however, these are particularly CPU-intensive and may dramatically reduce the number of streams you can host on a single machine.
