Other requirements:
- PHP safe mode (and similar limitations such as open_basedir restrictions) may need to be disabled.
- PHP must be built with support for the GD image and FreeType font libraries to generate statistics graphs.
- PHP must be available and in good working order both on the web server and on the console (CLI binary).
- Ability to setup a scheduled task (cron job) is necessary for monitoring and bandwidth reporting.
- ionCube Loader (included with Centova Cast) is required**.
- Shell access (SSH), a compiler (gcc), and root access are required for installation***.
* Centova Cast should theoretically run under any Linux distribution
or UNIX-like OS (such as *BSD). Debian, Red Hat/CentOS, and Fedora are
officially supported by Centova Technologies Inc. FreeBSD details are here.
** Centova Cast uses ionCube encoding to protect and accelerate its
code. The ionCube Loader is bundled with Centova Cast, and in most
cases requires no additional installation or configuration.
*** Root access is required during installation so that Centova Cast can be installed under its own user account. Without root access, Centova Cast would run under the web server's user account which could represent a security issue. After installation, root privileges are not used at all by Centova Cast.
